It's not aTrump base, it is an ideological far right base that was there before Trump and will be there long after he is gone. Trump was the first white house occupant to openly support this extreme ideology and the fact that he did so without any consequences has now normalized the racism, homophobia and anti-immigration rhetoric that most GOP elected officials were afraid to openly express prior to 2015. This base has always been there, and it it is very real threat to American democracy as indicated by the orchestrated attack on voting rights.
